Taking flight: the Social Butterflies Foundation's #ButterflyWalk supports those living with and through lupus and fibromyalgia on August 3rd and beyond
There are a number of health challenges and hurdles people are clearing. Among them are lupus (which occurs when the immune system attacks healthy tissues and organs) and fibromyalgia (which results in widespread body pain and tiredness), both of which can be accentuated due to over-exposure to the heat or sun.
And yet, among them are stories of impact as people living with either identify medical and life adjustments to allow them to live as full a life as possible. And in the words of Chastity Corbett (a lupus conqueror who lives with, through, and beyond the health condition), the director of the Newport News, VA based nonprofit Social Butterflies Foundation, "Butterflies never fly alone".
In this spirit of togetherness and collaboration, the nonprofit's annual #ButteflyWalk is a way for those living with either health hurdle, along with their families, friends, loved ones, and the larger community, can lend support for the day and beyond. The event takes place on August 3, 2024 at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, VA (from 1-4pm).
Taking place indoors, it provides a more conducive setting for the walk (to avoid the heat and potential flare-ups due to the summertime weather). In addition to the walk, there's a solid array of participants, including the author's corner, vendors across the business and health community, an area for the kids to play, and more.
Among the special guests include (but are not limited to) Amber Payton (on-air personality for 103 Jamz/IHeartMedia), Jackie Glass (one of the delegates and grand marshal for the event), and Oshea Russell (who plays the role of "Tommy" from the show All the Queens Men). Along with others across the public and private sector (click HERE to visit the foundation's website), it can truly be a positive game-changer as proceeds raised support the year-round programs of the foundation.
While there are times people may have to take things on by themselves, the Social Butterflies Foundation reminds them (and their families, friends, loved ones, and supporters) you are never alone.
After all, butterflies don't let butterflies fly alone.
