Return to the Winner's Circle: the #AlphaDerbyWeekend hosted by the Alphas of Atlanta
There's no place like the Winner's Circle.
From 2015-19, the Alphas of Atlanta, the nonprofit collective comprised of members from the Metro-Atlanta graduate chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, Inc., host one of the signature events of the spring and beyond via the #AlphaDerbyWeekend. The Kentucky Derby themed event (for those 21 and older/mature audiences) presented by Woodford Reserve originates as a 2-day event (in 2015 and 2016) and eventually, a 3-day destination benefit weekend (as of 2017) as proceeds raised support multiple nonprofits throughout the Metro-Atlanta area (click HERE to find out about the participating nonprofits).
Complete with the sophistication and pageantry associated with the "Running of the Roses", it's an experience which draws patrons from the entire metro area, state, and beyond (as historically 1/3 of the guests are from outside the state of Georgia). In previous years, the likes of classic hip-hop artists including Doug E Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, Chubb Rock, and even the originators of the Swag Surf, We.R.Fly, have graced the stage and provided an amazing backdrop to a weekend where proceeds raised support multiple nonprofits throughout the metro area.
Due to the pandemic, the Alphas of Atlanta focus on creative ways to provide community support, including 2021's highly successful inaugural golf tournament (click HERE to find out more). Thanks to tremendous community support, the event sells out in less than 10 days and helps the nonprofit provide a measure of community support and outreach.
Coming into this weekend (May 6-8, 2022), the event is back, bringing an impressive lineup reflective of previous years.
Saturday's (May 7th) main event (at the College Football Hall of Fame) provides all an opportunity to truly be suited and booted in the style coinciding with a great spring afternoon, complete with the fedoras and fascinators and more (the doors open at 3:30pm). On top of enjoying the actual race, dj's, silent auction, and related amenities, classic Southern hip-hop artists Crime Mob are set to grace the stage (including performing their signature track "Knuck If You Buck"), adding to the festivities.
The weekend concludes with a sold-out Sunday brunch (May 8th as the doors open at 11am) at the Omni Hotel at the CNN Center, complete with live jazz, dj's, sponsor recognition, and acknowledgements of the nonprofits supported (click HERE for a listing).
Patrons are encouraged to stay tuned to their Instagram and Twitter accounts (@alphasofatlanta and @alpha_derby on Instagram and Twitter) as well as Facebook (Alphas of Atlanta) for breaking updates, including a few special guests and more. Tickets are still available for Friday evening's kickoff party and concert and Saturday main event only;; (click HERE for tickets); limited sponsor ($150, $350, and $500) opportunities are available as well (click HERE to view the available packages).
For more details, including health protocols, readers are encouraged to contact them via email at info@alphaderbyparty.com along with their recently posted FAQ (frequently asked questions) by clicking HERE.
With the big weekend right around the corner, the entire committee is working diligently in providing an outstanding experience for all.
The first weekend of May.
Clearly, there's nothing like being in the Winner's Circle.
