Here today, but playing tomorrow: Norfolk vs Gwinnett is postponed for a doubleheader on July 21st
Preview: Norfolk Tides (58-32, 1st Place/International League East) vs Gwinnett Stripers (40-51, 9th place/International League West, 14.5 GB)
Coming into tonight's game (July 20, 2023), the series between Norfolk (AAA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) and Gwinnett (AAA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) is tied at 1 game apiece. With both teams coming in with solid 10-game stretches (the Tides are 6-4 in their last 10 games and the Stripers are 7-3 in their last 10 games), the focus is on building on their current stretch for a solid finish to the 2nd half of the season.
The Tides, who have scored a combined 22 runs in the first 2 games of the series, will look to Daz Cameron (.269 BA, 12 HR/46 RBI's/19 SB's), Lewin Diaz (.238 BA with 43 RBI's), and Connor Norby (.285 BA, 13 HR/60 RBI's) to lead the scoring attack against Gwinnett's Max Fried (who may be on his last rehab start and pending return to the Atlanta Braves).
Fried (0-0, 0.00 ERA during his rehab assignment) looks to contain the Norfolk offense (even with a projected pitch count) and put the team's offense in a position to put pressure on Norfolk starter Garrett Stallings (1-2, 5.59 ERA). Joe Dunand (.295 BA, 13 HR/33 RBI's), Vaughn Grissom (.320 BA with 38 RBI's and 11 SB's), and Braden Shewmake (.233 BA, 11 HR/44 RBI's) lead the team offense.
Prior to the game, team and fan favorite Luke Williams takes time to interview with us. His overall focus, energy, dedication, and love for the game are some of the attributes which are helping his development (.241 BA with 11 RBI's and 10 SB's in 29 games with Gwinnett) this season (make sure to watch the full interview below):
