A series of special Saturdays with the Georgia Spartans
During the United Men's Basketball League (semi-professional season), from March through May, most Saturdays with the Georgia Spartans are special. The team finished in 2nd place overall as their championship run falls a few points short.
However, the impact they make off the court creates winning situations for all.
On Saturday, June 12th, the team is a key sponsor for the DeKalb Fitness Challenge in partnership with Commissioner Larry Johnson (at 2771 Columbia Drive in Decatur, GA), Hot 107.9FM, and other area businesses. The day is a great way to provide access to resources in a fun and festive setting. With some amazing vendors, food trucks, free health screenings (including COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS screenings), healthy cooking demos, events for the kids (including a bike rodeo), and donations of food and related produce for distribution, it is all about responding to the needs of the community.
But their outreach doesn't stop there (click HERE to watch the full playlist).
On Saturday, June 19th, the team hosts its annual Juneteeth Jam. Despite the rain, there are a solid range of food trucks and vendors providing access to services and products to those in attendance in Stockbridge, GA (Light of the Christian Tabernacle International at 5883 SR-155). Business including Creative Brown Girl, 1820hats, Poppin Pan ATL, Good Good Ice, and Store On The Go 2020 are among those lending their support for the afternoon event.
On the court, New Rock Basketball is one of the AAU teams featured, and the Spartans compete with their #UMBLHoops colleagues, the Strong Box Steppers, to close out the day (the Spartans would earn a 98-80 win). Complimented by performances from the Diamond Legacy Dance Team, @babeanimalATL (on Instagram), and @ajsinger_ (on Instagram), it's yet another outstanding way to spend a part of your Saturday.
Two great ways to connect with the community. With more events this summer and fall, even during the off-season, the Georgia Spartans continue their winning ways off the court.
When they have something in place, spend part of your Saturdays with the Georgia Spartans.
