A fine time in year 9: the Alphas of Atlanta and the #AlphaDerbyWeekend provide an elevated experience in the Winner's Circle
Since the inception of the #AlphaDerbyWeekend via the Alphas of Atlanta, it's more than providing a top-notch Kentucky Derby themed event in the city of Atlanta which is a tremendous draw across the city, Metro-Area, state, and beyond (as 1 out of 3 patrons travel from outside the state of Georgia to be a part of the festivities). The nonprofit's members/planning committee are fueled by their signature event in raising proceeds to support multiple nonprofits across the Metro-Atlanta area and in pouring into programs focused on male-mentoring, scholarship opportunities, college tours, and other community-focused programs, the effect is summed up by the following adage;
There's no place like being in the Winner's Circle.
The 9th edition of arguably the key destination benefit weekend event of the spring and beyond (May 2-5, 2024) consists of all the elements of elegance from the events, attire, and overall mature and festive atmosphere. Complimented by title sponsors Volkswagen, Anheuser-Busch, Woodford Reserve, Hideoki, and Midas, the weekend opens with a sponsors' reception (May 2nd) to provide a solid networking event to set the tone for a great weekend.
May 3rd is an active day across the board.
The morning at Chapel HIlls Golf Club (Douglasville, GA) sees nearly 100 players (men and women) partake of the game of golf. The competitive and friendly atmosphere combined with a great day weather-wise provides a solid round of golf and time to ease into the weekend.
In the early evening, a health seminar and mixer hosted by Viiv Healthcare provides another example of the community commitment and engagement with the larger community.
But the ease is elevated thanks to the kickoff party and concert at the Omni Atlanta (Centennial Olympic Park).
Atlanta-favorite Frank Ski's "Northern Exposure" set provides a sound way to start the evening. Afterwards, headliner Bobby V's smooth blends of late '90's/early 2000's r and b stylings provide for an engaging and interactive way for the audience to sit back, relax, and partake of some Atlanta-influenced tracks along with some post-performance commentary.
To close out the evening, DJ Smoke Dog, an IHeart Radio favorite, concludes the evening with another sound and solid DJ set.
And then comes Saturday (May 4th), the main event.
Attendees partake of an elevated experience at the Delta Flight Museum. With an indoor/outdoor vibe complimented by top-notch vendors, along with the opportunity to enjoy a test drive of two (via Volkswagen), the "chill vibe" on the outside is matched by an energy inside.
On top of watching a closely contested race, with appearances from Atlanta Mayor Andre' Dickens, along with proclamations from Rockdale County (Commissioner Sherri Washington), Newton County (Commissioner Demond Mason), Morrow, GA (Mayor Pro Temp Renee Knight), and Councilman Byron Amos from the City of Atlanta, it reminds all of the larger presence and purpose of the event.
Adding to the experience, from remarks from the title sponsors, to the winner of the hat contest (the great 8, Currency St Claire), to the venue, and the DJ's (DJ E-Clazz and DJ J-Smoove), it's evident the event builds upon the principles of "operating in excellence".
Before all depart to their local or out of state destinations, the Sunday brunch (May 5th) provides a tremendous conclusion and sendoff for all. Complete with the sounds of DJ Genius and the musical performance of Kari Epps (along with the weekend hosting of Chris Cornell), the signature event clearly gets stronger year after year.
With year 10 on deck in 2025, the Alphas of Atlanta continue to provide an event which is one of more highly regarded in the city and beyond. And in case we forgot, the first weekend of May is a clear reminder there's no place like the Winner's Circle.
Especially with an elevated experience provided by the Alphas of Atlanta.
